I've been on 45 mg of remeron for almost a year. I use it for sleep and depression. It helps me sleep, but takes up to 3 hours to kick in. In the morning, I do feel sluggish and have no appetite. I'm fine at lunch time. I eat lunch and dinner, but am eating like a pig just before I fall asleep. I have gained over 25 lbs in the last year. My stomach is huge. Dieting has not helped at all.

Hi, I have been on mirtazapine for about a week now [7.5mg], The first day I had the munchies badly but now the reverse has happened and I am only eating small meals twice per day. I am putting this down to my very low carb diet [below 50gms of carbs per day]. Still feeling somewhat lethargic during the day but finding that 2 or three strong coffees in the morning really help here.

Weight gain is a very common side effect of almost all SSRi and SNRI antidepressants.

What you really need to do to combat it is to make sure you get proper exercise and watch your diet. You know what the proper portion sizes of foods are and how much you should eat for a meal, so be careful that you don't exceed that by huge amounts.

What has your doctor advised you to do about the weight gain issue?

Have been taking Mirtazapine for about 5 months and it saved my life. Sleep well, some weight gain, which I hate, 5, 6 pounds, and now feeling better to wean off of it. Absolutely no side effects other than putting on a few pounds. Was on 30 mg. now cutting back to half a pill and hopefully none.
