please, please, please, do not take more than 2 max tapering dose, i am suffering from that (wrongly diognised by doctor) and gave almost 20 doses of one month each
after 8 years i am totally week, my immuno system is reached a bad stage i am getting breathing problem almost twice in a year & sinus for life time. - all this happened because of a very good doctor's idiotic work.
please take second even third opinion is not waste.

I am diagnosed with a skin problem called lichen planus in Jan' 2005. At that time a dose of Omancortil 10mg was given for 10days along with Anti-histaminic Atarax 25mg. All these 5 years went fine, now this winter again I could see lichens coming up at some places and doctor suggested another 10 day dose of the same Omnacortil but this time its 20mg for 10 days. (once a day). I am now 37 yrs old and a weight og 86kg. I have two questions 1) What can be the side effects with this Omnacortil when taken for second time in last 5 years? 2) And are there any non-steroidal treatment for Lichen planus?

Hello Leena,
I am sorry to hear about your mother and her bout with TB and meningitis. The first 4 drugs you described are given to eradicate the bacteria TB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Because resistant strains are about, a triple or more therapy is given by doctors. She was also given vitamin B6 as a supplement. Additionally, the doctors want to get rid of this infection for obvious reasons. She has also been given prednisolone this could be for a few reasons, one of them, for the meningitis - and also, because as the TB is being eradicated, like other infections, the prednisolone dampers inflammatory reactions.

The reason for her memory loss can be varied. If it were myself, Id wonder whether the meningitis has had any effects on the mental processes. Meningitis as you may know, is an inflammation of the coverings of the brain directly under the skull. We can develop meningitis through several causes infection, certain chemicals, trauma, etc..
Of course, her doctor must also check to see that these drugs arent causing any side effects in that area as well.
Last but not least, Id have my blood sugars tested uncontrolled, or poorly controlled diabetes can cause marked variation in memory loss and overall cognition.
And finally, the doctors should have follow-up with your mom to verify that the infection is eradicated.
If the meningitis was severe, memory can be affected. In either case, it would be a good idea to have her thoroughly assessed.
My best wishes
Dr K James
