i am suffering from chronic idiopathic urticaria(CIU) since 2005 and taking Levocetirizine 5mg every alternate day.Is there any possibility of serious side effect as i am taking it for long time?
Levocetirizine or Ebastine which one will be the better choice for long term use in CIU?

Instead of medication, have your mother take you to the tanning bed for 30-minute sessions on 4 consecutive days. Get a little burned and the CIU will disappear and won't bother you again.
I am a physician. I give everyone the same advice and it always works.

Thanks Verwon for your reply.
none of my doctors were able to give me a proper guideline rather most of them are in favour of switching on to another antihistamine. Do you think it is rational? However, i myself decided to reduce the dose as low as possible and increase the interval time as long as my symptom allows.Accordingly i reduced the dose of Levocetirizine to 2.5 mg.and taking it biweekly for the last one month.Well, i am getting satisfactory result till now. i am anticipating to cut the dose further. But my main concern is how long?

What has your doctor advised?
There are always risks associated with the long-term use of any medication, including the possibility of organ damage, such as that which may occur to the liver, since most medications are processed through it.
As to which one may be better, it is hard to say, because they all carry the possibility of risks. Only you and your doctor can decide what is right and carries the least risk for you.
You can learn more about both of them here:
