What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg.?

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I bought some oxycontin 40 mg. to see if they could replace my 4 mg. Dilaudid. However, I did 1/2 of a 40 mg. and I felt nothing. An hour later I did my 4 mg. Dilaudid and really felt it. But they are very short lived, that's why for cronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid?You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a presciption for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users(RIGHT)!!!

He was taking Oxycontin the time released version of Oxycodone of course he didn't take it properly so it was like taking 20mg of oxycodone. But no one had answered IMO what's the equivalent of 4mg of Dilaudid. I unfortunately don't know. I came here going someone answered this question properly.

there is a oxycodone 12 hour and a right now oxycodone/roxicodone which is just as good if not better than dilaudid i cant even take a whole fast acting it knocks me out where i can take a dilaudid and i have have spinal surgery and 6 hip replacements plus femur transplant and prefer the oxycodone/roxicodone

I have been on every pain relief medication known to man. Sooner or later, they all stop working, and the dosage gets higher, and higher. When you're on pain meds, your brain stops making the 3 chemicals your body needs to fight pain. It is a vicious cycle. The only thing that matters, is the next fix. I started going outside in the sunshine, working in my garden. The pain started going away, gradually. I weaned myself off the meds. What no one told me, is that sunshine creates endorphins. That was 5 years ago. I am not pain-free, but the level of pain is not as high a when I was on them. My medical condition has not improved, but my reliance on God has. As long as you stay on the meds, you will be a slave to them and your pain. It will rob you of any joy you might have had in this life.

I was addicted to dilaudid for 5yrs for back sur. I took myself to detox & it was a horrible 12 days but it's been 3 yrs clean & I'm glad to have that monkey off my back. I do miss the pain relief though.

Dear LisaLoo, I read your post and it called out to me i too know what its like to once be a functioning person mom and wife and then have something take you out like that - i walk stooped over, i can hardly even take a shower and get dressed, the pain has become such a thorn in my life, its now 2012 and pain meds have become the big NONo for all drss to give out because of stupid kids trying to get high, i hope your doing better and i'd be interested in knowing, all the best Paula

As a idiot who has somehow lived through using narcotic drugs since 1971, one thing is always certain, one narcotic may be stronger than the other ( whether it's "off the hook" heroin or 5mg.vicodan) but they ALL WILL get you strung out! After kicking more times than I, or anyone else that knows me, could EVER guess, nobody wants to be dope sick regardless of what the narcotic is. Methadone last alot longer than other narcotic withdrawls BUT it's all the same dread when you know there is nothing to wake up to when your strung out. Anyway, switching from Sub's to 2mg. Dilaudid's( and V's) is NOT a very smart move if your sincerely trying to clean up. Your M.D. must be enjoying your cash, or insurance, because that was a lame switch if he knows your intent to be clean. Hate to say it , Brother, but there is NO secret remedy when strung out, you will have to "pay the due's" to get things right. It may be 3 to 5 days OR it may be 4 month's before you get a night of "normal" sleep. I don't know your history, etc., but just be strong, my friend, and get past the initial week and take it from there.BE STRONG AND YOU CAN DO IT !!!

i get great relief from take diladid orally, I must be lucky, however my ex lost 3 fingers from shooting up oxys. IT'S DANGEROUS. That's why you are not suppose to, its called being a drug addict no matter how may ways you want to believe that you're not.

if u took nothing for a week and did not get sick odds r you will not have any withdrawals. Are you taking more then needed r u seeking more all then etc. odds r u are only dependent on the med. Bets of luck

I just can't believe people post on here looking for something to get"high" on.Maybe they started out needing pills for actual PAIN,but then ended up getting "hooked" on this stuff.I hate taking any kind of Drugs,but I have Neuropathy so bad from old surgery,I take what they give me,and "none" have helped,so far.NERVE DAMAGE is hard to calm down even.Now they want to put me on Predisone and I am more afraid of this than the drugs.
I just feel sorry for anyone that has actual PAIN.I do feel sorry for the ones that have got "hooked".How do you know if you are Hooked,or when you will get withdrawls?

OOOKK. Some one said just suck it up aand deal with it!! Obviously you have never had to deal with real pain. Ive been told my pain is in my head. The fact is...my back has been broke my neck also Lots of pain in my back and in my leggs and the neck pain is the worst. Does that sound like its in my head?? Morphine and oxycodone and dilaudid dont control it. So what now? should I just buck up and deal with it??

I have what they consider Chronic Neuropathy from a Thoracotomy and back surgery.I have been used as a Guniea Pig for the last 13 years.They think I have too much Nerve damage for them to help,so they won't try to remove the old damage.I would let them try it in a heart beat!!Instead ,they just keep the pain pills coming at me and in 13 years,I have finally graduated to the Dialdid.It just barely takes the edge off my pain for a very short time.I hurt 24/7 constantly.It never quits.I can't seem to find any Doctors that want to even try and help me with this pain.My stomach is bloated out and I look 9 months preg.I am 74,so guess they figure I am too old to help.I am disabled from this pain and my son has to do anything that gets done.I can still walk,but am on oxygen and can't get far:) I can't get in the tub and take a bath as I can't pull myself out.I am Raw Sore internally and Externally,but the Docs have no idea what the cause of this isand they just keep giving me pills.I have to take sponge baths as I also get dizzy in the Shower.
I just want to get off anykind of pills,but am afraid to after 13 years of taking pills.I have been off them sometimes for maybe a week,but how do you tell if you are hooked or will have withdrawels??
I JUST WANT TO GET AWAY FROM ALL OF THEM BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN ANY THAT TAKES ANY OF MY PAIN AWAY.ALL THEY DO IS NUMB THE EDGE A LITTLE...

I didn't have that problem, I took suboxone for 3 months and when I stopped there was no withdraws. Not sure why you are still having w/d's you shouldn't be. Check with you doctor you w'd period is over and I didn't have w/d's from the suboxone

I totally agree with you, I have the same problem but the ones that talk about me are family. I would like for them to one day have the pain I have every day all day and them see if they would talk about me. Being addicted isnt fun but being in pain is far far worst.

It really depends,if you take them both by mouth then dilaudid isn't as strong orally and only last about 3 hours. OC 40taken by mouth (especially if you dont chew it up) then it takes alot longer, but once it finally does kick in then it will hold you 6-8 hours(they say its a 12 hr pill but i''ve never gotten 3 hours relieve..
Now on the other hand if you shootup up the 4 its instant and gives you an intensense euphoric feeling, but it only last 2 hours and the rush is over in about 30 seconds. What i do is shoot them in my muscle, you feel it in the first few minutes and last longer than if you mainline it, get maybe 3 hours. dilaudid is just a short term medicine, works great for instant relieve but thats why when your in the hospital its usualy ordered every 2-4 hrs,especially if your opiate tolerant (which i spend about as much time in the hospital as i do out) so i've been playing this game awhile..
But if your just swallowing the pills, i'd stick with the 40mg oxy
