Tramadol - Unable To Acheive Organsm

Anyone else experiencing this side effect? Not a normal topic of discussion for me with anyone but my doctor.
I found this drug to be very helpful with easing pain, no sedating effect, BUT after taking this medication discovered I was unable to acheive orgasm. It took me a while to figure out it was the Tramadol causing the problem.

I have been taking tramadol for about 9 months due to car accident injury. I am now trying to discontinue use & it has been a very tough time. I think maybe I should have tried to d/c it first before the hydrocodone meds!
I have not had the anorgasmia you describe with tramadol, but I will say this- I read the info on here about the mechanism of action of tramadol, and it works kind of like opiates & it also works like certain antidepressants, as it works with the brain's neurotransmitters norepinephrine & serotonin.
I have taken Lexapro 10 mg about three years ago for anxiety when I started nursing school. In the initial month for the antidepressant to begin working, I did experience anorgasmia (inability to achieve orgasm). I can only put my educated assumption on the table as an offering of a possible reason that it is messing around with those NTs, serotonin & norepinephrine, and that is the trouble.
I hope this helps you to understand the why & how. As for the solution, I don't know anything other than the slow weaning off or perhaps a lower dosage. I was taking twelve 50 mg tablets a day (2 every 4 hours) at first in June 2011. Now I am down to one when I wake up & one at bedtime. I'm working on none at anytime!

IT IS HARD FOR ME TO ACHIEVE AN ORGASM BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN ON VICODIN FOR OVER A YEAR. IT HELPS WITH MY PAIN BUT I HAVE A CLOSE TO NON EXISTENT SEX LIFE,IT SUCKS

After reading 65 posts, I to am convinced that tramadol decreases libido as well as the ability to climax. I've been on tramadol for 3 or 4 years. My T was checked and was found to be 215, which is low. My Dr. prescribed 200 mg testestorone cipronate injections every 2 weeks. For erections is use "trimix". Its still difficult to climax and the sensation during is weak. I'm 77 years old so until reading these posts I thought my problem was age. I have been taking 3-50 mg tramadols per day. If I skip the one at supper, sex that night is much better. After reading these posts, I'm going to wean of tramadol, not sex. After 51 years of marriage sex is still an important part of our relationship.

Thank you everybody I just starting taking this stuff today very first time. I just wanted to look up info on it just because I'm happy I did because my drive is none. So if this is going to make it worse then I will take it when im really in pain.

Hi its very true tramadol vanish the sex life, ' because I am on tramadol since two years and now my sex drive completely went off' its been six months I never had sex at all, this is very very bad side effect which tramadol manfecture company never mentioned in the side effects.

I'm glad this is a student - should learn the facts instead of giving bad advice. Tramadol absolutely decreases sex drive and causes erectile dysfunction and/or difficulty or inability achieving orgasm. Tramadol both increases serotonin levels and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine. Both of these decrease sexual drive and/or function. In fact, tramadol does more to cause sexual dysfunction than much stronger narcotic drugs such as hydrocodone and oxycodone.

I have been using tramadol for 6 months. It relieves the pain. It hinders me from causing multible erections in the same day.

Tramadol/ I have totally lost interest in sex since taking Tramadol ( & Lyrica ) blood tests show my testosterone is low, so i was sent to see a endo-ist but i now have to wait three months before i go back for bloods,the thing with this medication is that it works on pain, but has side effects, it can send you high then low, does anybody else keep fidgeting with their hair ?? or get sores in their hair, or even in my case have their hair falling out ?? i am not to suprised that it can make you high because there are five E,s in the shell,the ones i take are produced in Germany.

I have only been taking tramodol for 9 days for dental pain and already have noticed a problem with reaching climax during sex! It's impossible! I have however noticed an increase in sex drive, maybe since i cant orgasm it makes me want it more? I told my dr. This and quit taking it immediatly, im using ibuprofen 800mg to manage pain now, not nearly as effective but hopefully worth it? Have only been off tramodol for 2 days & still no happy ending:( I'll let u know when I'm back on track!

Yep, tramadol sucks when trying to get off if you're a guy. Even if you're on 500mg/week of testosterone, you can't get off. I would mention it to my doc and see if there is anything that you can use that will help. I'd try Saw Palmetto, and also maybe suggest cabergoline to your doctor and see what he says.

ive been on tramadol for around 7 yrs during this time i got married an started having sex i hav NEVER had an orgasim w my husband we hav now ben married 2 and a half yrs i hate this i know it hurts our relationship i have orgasimed once or twice while having sex dreams but not for the last few yrs ive also orgasimed while i was too young to know what it was so i know kind of what im missing but i want so badly to have that connection w my husband PLEASE DO NOT EVER START THIS DRUG! it has totaly ruined my sex life i cant reach orgasim by myself or w a vibrater when i get close it jus gets kinda uncomfortable and i pull away does anyone have any advise on how i can reach an orgasim? i am 27! i saved myself for marraige an got married at 25 and my dr never warned me of any of this

For me it's been a while now since getting off. Amazingly I feel great, am not depressed nor constipated anymore and my sex life is back!
I take advil for the shoulder pain I have. If you can get off that drug I urge you to do so. You will get your life back.

Also, yes it has the same effect on me with regards to being unable to achieve climax! No real issues on erections, just less sensitive.

But the drug is a very strong analgesic so no wonder!

Absolute nightmare, especially when the girl you're having sex with is questioning if it's anything to do with her! :-S

Anyone wishing to 'detox' from Tramadol without having to suffer the full on withdrawal symptoms should take either Nurofen Plus or Cupfrofen Plus.

They will take quite alot of the edge of from the shakes, nausea, chills, sweats, fatigue etc etc as they contain 12.8mgs of Codeine Phosphate and 200mgs of Ibuprofen.

After about 3/4 days of taking nothing but the Nurofen/Cuprofen Plus as a dose of no more than 6 a day, you will notice when you cease taking them you will not have any withdrawals AND the withdrawals from the Tramadol have passed also.

I hope this benefits anyone wishing to rid themselves of Tramadol. It's worked exceptionally well for me a few times. Bear in mind it takes the edge off, not completely stops the withdrawals.

thank you all so much. my husband had a very high sex drive, but i never have, but when he had to start taking tramadol due to a disc problem and the pain was so severe he had to take it, but his sex drive just disappeared and i feel so very insecure, although i know that it is the medication and so does he, it does not help. i find myself sitting alone each night, due to the fact that tramadol makes him also sleep much more. it does not help me feeling lonely and sad.

My experience is a bad one. I have been on Tramadol for over 2 years. I have gradually gone off sex more and more as time goes on. I still wake up hard n all that but i just don't have the urge and it seems the more i don't do it, the worse it's getting. I know it's really frustrating for my girlfriend and she has been understanding but she is starting to snap at me sometimes because of it and that only makes me feel worse and makes me want it even less. It's becoming a vicious circle. Some guys have said it means they can last longer when taking tramadol, i experienced that a little to begin with but i also felt the sensation was dulled and i really wasn't enjoying it. So much so that a couple of times i lost my erection. Perhaps that made things worse again. I need the Tramadol because of my pain and the withdrawls are terrible, i tried. But i'm worried that my girlfriend might get sick of me and leave one day. She is only 21 and i am in my later 20's. She will be thinking this is never going to get better. I don't know what to do. I couldn't blame her for leaving. We are only having sex about once a week at most right now, sometimes less. That isn't healthy and i can't expect her to accept that but i feel as if i can't win. I wish my doctor had never prescribed it. Before i started them, i never ever EVER had problems with libido. I had a healthy young mans sex drive and had very regular sex. I feel like an old man sometimes.

UUmmmm. I have found that my body is very used to the tram after 2 years and it remains the same that it is extremely difficult to achieve orgasm. I WILL SAY, that after working for it, when you do have it, is is one of the strongest and satisfying orgasms I've ever had in my life.
